THE CUENCA CITY

Cuenca is one of the most important and beautiful cities of the Ecuador. The foundation of Cuenca was the April 12/ 1557 by the Captain Gil Ramirez Davalos for order of Don Andres Hurtedo de Mendoza Viceroy of Lima - Peru, founded the city that in the present and in the future will have the name of " Santa Ana de los Rios de Cuenca", because there are four abuntant rives: Tomebamba, Machangara, Tarqui and Yanuncay. Cuenca, a wonderful city, it's third largest in Ecuador. Its name really is Santa Ana de los Cuatro Ríos de Cuenca, because it has four rivers, their names are Tomebamba, Yanuncay, Tarqui and Machángara, It's capital of the Azuay province. Is located in the sierra of the Andes in the Austro or south region of Ecuador. It is approximately eight hours south of Quito and four hours east of Guayaquil.



It has colonial buildings and very important churchs, for example the New Catedral Its towers are truncated due to a calculation error of the architect. If they had been raised to their planned height, the foundation of this church to the Immaculada Concepcion, would not have been able to bear the weight, and the Old Cathedral, It was built in 1557, but soon was too small for the faithful of the town. In 1880, they decided to build a temple to replace it. At the present time, the old cathedral is in process of restoration. It is no longer consecrated and is operated as a museum., The two Cathedrals its around the Calderón Park; also María Auxiliadora, San Francisco, Todos Santos, San Alfonso, and another.

Tombs of the XVII century and a complete collection of religious art are part of this exhibition.

Quito is a turistic city, and there are a lot of places to visist. The city is divided in three parts: the north, the center and the South.
The north of the city is called the modern Quito for its big buildings and avenues, there are some places that we could visit, the malls, the parks, the stadium, the teleferic and others.



The colonial city is the center historic with its churchs, colonial streets, monuments, museums and others; some turistic places are the catedral, the Compania church, El Panecillo, the big square and the Carondelet Palace.


Finally the South of Quito, this is more resindential place, and we could visit the mall el recreo, the lineal park of river Machangara and the Libertity Top.
Quito was declared the Cultural Patrimony of Humanity in 1978 for its enormous cultural riches, for that is called the face of God or Quito, Light of America.


Quito is to 8 hours of Cuenca approximadly...... you can go by car or by bus, and enjoy of the landscape in all the tour, you can see the mountains, snowies, rivers and evennesses. When you go by bus..... you can relax and enjoy the trip....the ticket costs ten dollars but when you go by car, is interesting to stop in some cities or towns and know them....... or go in plane but it is more expensive
